Stephen Ministry

Why do we have a Stephen Ministry?

Our Stephen MinistersOur mission statement says that we are a compassionate community, and the Bible tells us to: Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:1-3

On June 1, 2003, Bethany Church commissioned the first group of Stephen Ministers. We currently have 9 Stephen Ministers, three of whom have become Stephen Leaders. Pastor Sangree has also trained as a Stephen Leader.

What do Stephen Ministers do?

Stephen Ministers work alongside our pastor to bring distinctively Christian care to encourage and provide emotional and spiritual support to people who are going through a difficult time. They use both words and deeds to express Christ’s care for others by listening and comforting, calling on the training they have received and employing the tools of faith. The caring relationships are one-to-one and they are strictly confidential.
